Aspen Updates December 8, 2017

Eagle Award Winning Classes

Every month, Regal the Eagle and the staff at Aspen are looking to recognize three classes who have demonstrate Safe, Respectful and Responsible behavior.  We are pleased to congratulate Mrs. Caby’s 1st grade class, Mrs. Chandler’s 5th grade class, and Mrs. Whitehead’s 3rd grade class for being our Eagle Award Winners.  Each class had a visit from Mr. Fredricksen and Regal the Eagle, received a class certificate and letters were sent home with each student in the class to recognize their wonderful work.  Congratulations to our Eagle award winners.

Report cards

Report cards were sent home with all students on Wednesday, December 6.  Please be sure and check your child’s backpacks!  This is a great time to acknowledge and celebrate their successes and talk about areas where improvement is needed.  After reviewing the report card with your child, please sign and return the envelope to school.

Scholastic Pajama Program

Aspen families, you did it again!  You met our Student Council and Scholastic Books challenge to donate new pajamas for needy children and adults.  Because of your generosity,100 pairs of pajamas were donated along with 100 books from Scholastic to children living in shelters, group homes, foster care, Head Start programs and other organizations that support at risk youth.  We are reminded again just how thoughtful and generous our Aspen family is. Thank you for helping us share the gift of a good night’s sleep and a sweet bedtime story.  After all, good nights are good days.

Choice Time has begun
We are still in need of more parent volunteers to help run our Choice Time activities, and encourage you to consider signing up for this opportunity.  If you are interested in volunteering, please email or call the Aspen Office for more information.  Our students love to have parents come in and lead fun activities during recess time.

Aspen’s Giving Tree

We invite you to help make the holidays a little more special this year for some of our own Aspen families.  Aspen’s Giving Tree is in the lobby right now and is full of mittens and stars with gift suggestions.  When you come in, there will be several options for you to choose from.  Just choose a mitten or a star (mittens have specific gift ideas and stars are for gift cards), leave the matching mitten or star with your information in the office and return the gift card or gift no later than Monday, December 18.  No need to wrap the gift, but if possible please bring the gift in a box or gift bag with the mitten or star attached.  Thank you in advance for helping to make this a happy season for everyone!

Early Release Day Coming

Please note that Wednesday, December 13 is an early release day for all students.  Aspen students are dismissed at 11:25 a.m.  Mark your calendars!

Third Grade field trip to The Chicago History Museum

Our third grade classes are looking forward to a great field trip to The Chicago History Museum on Wednesday, December 14. They will spend the day learning about both Chicago and American history.  There are Chicago treasures exhibited as well as a few short films and activity stations for students to participate in.
