Congratulations to Landon B. and Precious O. who were recognized at the Board of Education Meeting on Monday evening. Landon and Precious received a certificate and a $50 check to be placed in savings and used to support their education.
Monday, May 27, is Memorial Day. This is a NO SCHOOL Day for all students. Enjoy your long weekend! School resumes on Tuesday, May 28.
Our last day of school is Thursday, June 6. Final report cards will be available to access on that day.
Planned activities have been scheduled for all Aspen students to help celebrate all the reading that has taken place all year. On Tuesday, a Reading Celebration video will be played in each classroom right after morning announcements. Also starting May 28, our PE teachers will do an activity outside in the “Grassy Grove” during PE. Individual classrooms will take an extra 10 minutes of recess with their class. In Art classes, students will have 10 minutes to draw/color a bookmark. And finally, everyday at the end of the school day next week, Mr. Fredricksen will be sitting in an eagle’s nest next to Regal the Eagle.
Friday, May 31 will be the last birthday breakfast for this school year. Mr. Fredricksen will be celebrating with all students that have a birthday in May. Please call in to RSVP and let us know what your child would like for breakfast.
Nora friends were the central focus of yesterday’s assembly at Aspen Elementary. The event was a culmination of activities throughout the year in which students got to build friendships with Nora friends. In a video, students expressed how much they learned through their friendships and how they came to understand that our differences make us special and connect us in a special way. Since its founding in 2016, The Nora Project, a non-profit organization, has grown from six classrooms to eighty-five, with teachers challenging students to practice empathy, exercise moral courage, and recognize the fundamental truth that as human beings, we are all more alike than different.
The PTO School Supply Kits fundraiser has begun! Believe it or not, it is now time to buy your school supply kits for next year. You can purchase them either online or on the paper form. If you purchase them online (hawthornpto.org/supplies), you are able to use a credit card, but your order must be placed by June 3. If you use the paper form to order, you must pay by check and orders are due on May 31. Supply kits will be delivered to your home between July 29 and August 3. PTO will receive 20% of every order.
We couldn’t ask for better volunteers! From working in the workroom by cutting, pasting, tracing, to copying, laminating, helping in the library, helping in the classroom, Choice Time, helping serve in the lounge and at the Conference dinners, and a million other things – our volunteers do it all! We most certainly couldn’t do what we do without YOU! Thank you for your tireless service and constant support! WE APPRECIATE YOU! We have a tiny token of our appreciation in the office for you. If you have volunteered at all this year, please come in and get your gift and allow us to thank you in person for all that you have done this year!
Our 3rd grade classes are lucky enough to be going to the Brookfield Zoo on Tuesday, May 21. They will be visiting an array of exhibits from amphibians and invertebrates to birds, reptiles and exotic mammals. They are in for a great day!
Our band and orchestra students have been working hard preparing for their concerts on Tuesday, May 21 for orchestra and Wednesday, May 22 for band. Both concerts will be held in Aspen’s gym. Concerts begin at 7:00 p.m. Don’t miss it!
